📍 On November 3rd in Carnikava, the most active participants of the “River Network” project and invited experts gathered to continue developing the Lower Gauja Development Strategy – from Murjāņi to the river’s mouth at the sea.
💬 This time, the main focus was on the governance model and specific actions that will help implement the shared vision for 2030:
“The Lower Gauja has become a unified and recognizable brand that highlights its unique natural and cultural values, as well as sustainable tourism practices. Riverfront accessibility is ensured through well-maintained banks, recreation areas, and waterways suitable for navigation. Tourism is carefully managed, balancing visitor flows, environmental protection, and local community interests while preserving natural and cultural heritage. Local municipalities and communities cooperate to coordinate development and promote the sustainable use of the Gauja’s resources, taking into account current challenges and the impacts of climate change.”
💧 The project’s current slogan — “The Gauja Flows – Nature Unites” — perfectly reflects the shared vision and spirit of cooperation.
🎯 Identified goals:
-
Improved access to infrastructure and recreational opportunities for residents
-
Preserved nature and protected environment
-
Promoted sustainable tourism management
-
Safeguarded and popularized cultural heritage
-
Strengthened cooperation and community participation
👉 Follow the development of the strategy and join the journey — your ideas and involvement are highly valued!
The “River Network” project is funded by the Interreg Estonia–Latvia Programme 2021–2027, aimed at supporting the sustainable development of the Emajõgi and Gauja river valleys. The project is implemented by Tartumaa Arendusselts (Estonia) and Jūras Zeme (Latvia).
